Embodied Tai Chi Core Practice

I have suggested the hypothesis that Embodied Tai Chi five principles gradually allow each individual student to feel and sense their own best posture and movement.

This embodiment of the Tai Chi can open us to a different perception of ourselves.  With repeated practice we not only become more sensitive towards our own balance and movement but also more perceptive towards our external world.  However;

We need to protect ourselves when we become more sensitive, protect ourselves from being overwhelmed by events in our external world.  By adopting an open flexing posture and correct breathing in our Qigong practice we can learn to calm our own nervous system.  This is one reason we must always practice Qigong and Tai Chi together.’ David Hunt 2023

Embodied Tai Chi helps us pay attention to what our body knows but has moved outside of our perception, has become unconscious - part of our autonomic nervous system.  Paying attention – experiencing our physiological sensations and feelings allows us to become more conscious.  However, trying to do this just through rational thought is much more difficult.  Chinese philosophy warns us about over theorizing this process; ‘The Tao (way) that can be described is not the eternal Tao’ Tao Te Ching attributed to Lao-Tzu ch.1.

The core practice of Embodied Tai Chi adopts principles from traditional teaching that enable us to find a ‘way’ to feel and sense movement and posture.  These principles are simple and explained briefly in the following videos.  However, you practice at your own risk and should always seek a qualified and experienced teacher.  Also remember;

Never do anything that makes you feel physically or emotionally uncomfortable.  After uncomfortable comes tension ruining your practice.  After tension comes discomfort.  After discomfort comes injury.’
