Embodied Tai Chi Linked Learning

A somatic – internal sensation feeling approach has been used to develop accessible learning pathways into the art of Tai Chi.

Stand alone one hour workshops are an ideal way to start exploring Tai Chi.  These include ‘Introduction to Posture’ looking at the principles of balance and breathing found within the more ancient practice of Qigong.  A second workshop ‘Introduction to Movement’ explores the principles of stability found within Tai Chi itself.  These workshops may be free of charge to voluntary and community groups.

Traditional Tai Chi practice understood from a somatic – embodied perspective is explored in more detail in the four week ‘5 Principles in 3 Postures’ course.  This will use the sequence of movement called ‘Grasp the Sparrows Tail’ found not just within the Yang but also the Chen, Wu and Sun family forms of Tai Chi.  Although the terms used and their implementation may differ the principles explored will be of interest to both complete beginners and experienced Tai Chi players.

If you wish to learn the flowing sequence of Tai Chi movement there is a ten week course that provides participants with an opportunity to learn the ‘PartOne Short Form’.  An integral part of the course will be the development of traditional ‘Qigong’ posture and breathing skills.  This short form is based on the first part of the ‘Traditional Yang Family Long Form’ enabling students to go on and seamlessly develop their Tai Chi skills.  Although less relevant today there is also a ‘Small Space Form’ developed in the weeks before the 2020 pandemic that resulted in so many people being unable to leave their homes.

For experienced Tai Chi players there is a five week ‘5 Moving Qigong’s’ course that brings together the movement of Tai Chi and the breath work of Qigong.  Again this will be of interest not only to those people practicing the Yang form but also those people who are experienced Chen, Wu and Sun players.

All these learning opportunities are supported by online learning material and videos.  Together they form a linked learning pathway that enables you to choose your own personal journey towards learning Tai Chi.
