Monetising Embodied Qigong
The core principle behind Embodied Qigong is simply; ‘knowing the things that you don’t know you already know’.
We come with so many evolutionary skills hard wired into our DNA. At around the age of one year old we learn to walk, taking those first wobbly tentative steps. Within weeks we no longer need to think about balance or walking, they become part of our autonomic nervous system - we just do it. Our heart beats, eyes blink, we breathe and walk across a room without conscious thought.
Our attention becomes ever more drawn to our external world so we no longer know the action of our internal physical body.
So the first Embodied Qigong lesson takes you back to an awareness of standing, balance and stepping. You ‘experience’ the internal difference in your posture by simply being aware of the sensation or feeling in your legs and feet. Sensations that result from your brain receiving signals from neurons in muscles, tendons and fascia. A beginning of knowing what your body already knows.
So lesson one seeks to unfold a shift in consciousness.
However, this shift in consciousness can also become a meditation for people who don’t do meditation. Many Eastern meditation practices seek to stop your minds endless mulling over the past or worrying about the future. Yet the mind seeking to stop the mind from wondering can be a real challenge for many of us.
This first Embodied Qigong lesson can also enable you to experience your mind resting in the present. While your awareness has been on the internal sensation or feeling in your legs as you unfold a different awareness of balance your mind can be distracted from endless thinking about the future or the past.
This first lesson in Embodied Qigong can unfold a shift in consciousness and also a resting of the mind in the present, the concept of ‘now’ in meditation.
Q. So what esoteric indigenous wisdom is imparted in the first lesson in Embodied Qigong?
A. Well the traditional practice of Qigong and Tai Chi has been unpicked into simply experimenting with springing and bouncing on each leg. We consciously engage in a ‘dance with gravity’. (Always follow rule one; ‘never do anything that makes you feel physically or emotionally uncomfortable’. Also remember that each of us will find a slightly different posture providing our personal best springy bouncy sensation – and that position changes as we change. Lastly, that sensation will only improve with practicing this awareness exercise.)
Q. How much do you charge for imparting this esoteric indigenous wisdom?
A. Nothing. The first class is free.
Q. What’s the catch?
A. Fair enough, a reasonable question in a World dominated by a market value system. I’m just not sure how you can monetise something so simple without making it complicated and less accessible.
I would suggest that being taken through the bouncy springy exercises in the first lesson is a much more effective way to unfold a personal experience of understanding this somatic approach rather than relying on a mental interpretation taken from the free video’s or information sheets.
Once you have that lived experience of internal awareness then the methodology can be applied to other forms of Qigong, Tai Chi, meditation or indeed any physical activity including simply mindful walking. Learning resources are freely made available in the spirit of collaboration, all that is asked is you acknowledge and reference the ‘David Hunt Tai Chi’ source. This includes all digital © copyright material available at www.embodiedtaichi.org , https://www.youtube.com/@davidhunt5399 or https://www.tiktok.com/@daveh2tiktok .
You are of course also welcome to join one of the Embodied Qigong or Embodied Tai Chi classes and explore more deeply a somatic understanding of these Eastern indigenous wisdom practices. No advanced fees are required simply pay for each class attended.
We have no fundamental objection to being paid for teaching this somatic embodied approach as long as monetising that process does not hinder sharing the benefits as widely and to as many people as possible.
